Do you find yourself dreaming of chess Knight and Day?  Are you the second coming of Bobby Fisher? Bored of playing against the computer? Then drop in to Chess Knights, a fun, social meet up to sharpen your skills.  We will have a limited number of chess boards to use, but feel free to bring a favorite board and pieces.

Christmas Loteria

Monday, December 22nd at 6:00pm (Lunes, 22 de Diciembre a las 6:00pm)
 
Come play Loteria! Loteria is a well known traditional Mexican card game that resembles bingo in a way. It’s a fast paced game, the caller quickly draws a card and shouts the name of an image. The game will be be Christmas themed.  This game will be in Spanish.

Ven jugar la lotería, un conocido juego de cartas tradicional mexicano, se parece al bingo en cierto modo. Es un juego de ritmo rápido: el locutor saca rápidamente una tarjeta y grita el nombre de una imagen.Va ser tematico Navideño.  Este juego va ser en Español.

Attention all teens! We have a crafty kit just for you! Each kit includes all the materials and easy-to-follow instructions needed for a unique DIY craft project.

Kits are available for pick up at the lower level circulation desk about 15th of the month and must be picked up before the last day of the month.

Tiny Tales/Open Play

Tiny Tales is for Ida’s tiniest readers to socialize and engage in early literacy! Tiny Tales Story Time is designed for babies from newborn to 2 years and their caregiver(s)! This story time happens on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month.

Bring your little one to Open Play with us! On the first,  third, and occasionally the 5th Thursday of the month at 10:30am to socialize, play, and learn!

Friday Focus

Mulled Wine Take Home Kit

 

Pick up December 15th – December 31st

We will send an email to you when the kits are ready for pick up at the lower level circulation desk.

Mulled wine is a centuries old Nordic/Germanic tradition. Its origins can be traced back to at least the 2nd century, in the Roman Empire. Pick up a mulled wine kit and see why it continues to be a winter favorite.All kits include a recipe card, spice packet, and a brief history of mulled wine. 

Wine is not included. For a non-alcoholic option, grape or cranberry juice works perfectly.

It may be cold and wintry, but there are still garden tasks to be done!  Learn what you can do over the winter from the University of Illinois Extension Office.

Dec 8th-Houseplant Propagation-Discover how to create a vibrant garden that supports bees, butterflies, and other essential pollinators!

Dec 9th-Pollinator Gardening-Join us for a session all about houseplant propagation, where you’ll learn the best techniques for taking cuttings, dividing plants, rooting in water or soil, and caring for new starts.

Jan 12-Winter Sowing-Learn how to start seeds outdoors all winter long! Join us and discover how simple containers, cold weather, and a little planning can give you hardy seedlings ready for spring.

Jane Austen High Tea

Thursday, December 11th, 2:30-4:30

 Celebrate the birth of Jane Austen with High Tea served by Vintage Goose Cafe!  High Tea to be held at Immanual Lutheran Church fellowship hall at 1045 Belvidere Road. Pastries, delicacies and unlimited tea will be served on fine bone china by the amazing staff at Vintage Goose Cafe.  There will be Victorian games, Jane Austen bingo, wildflower bookmarks to make, and a Vicotrian themed photo area so come in your best Jane Austen garb!  A full set of Jane Austen novels will be given away!  This program is open to Adults and Young Adults.  There is a $25 fee to cover the cost of the amazing delicaces and the wait staff.  Tickets can be purchased at the library or online at this link.  https://square.link/u/zh3djy8e
